Long night

The list from last week? Yeah, I only did one of those things, organize Clem's party. So of course, it is raining today and my windshield wipers aren't working.

My gal and I had a fight last night. There was even yelling. We never have yelling. My eyes are all puffy and I could use a hug. Well, that and a nap. I slept horribly.

I had Clem's parent-teacher conference on Friday. She got all As and her teacher said that other than talking too much, she's doing very well. Apparently, she's just like her mother.

That's really all I've got for today.

Meh

The sun still isn't out.

I'm still kinda down.

I was going to do a lot more with my day than what I've done so far.

I need to just go back to bed.

Short little post

I'm a bit bored today. I don't have any services, so I'm just doing paperwork and it's starting to make me tired. Also, the sun isn't shining today, it's overcast and somewhat gloomy, which makes me feel kinda down.

I got a new tattoo last Sunday and it finally doesn't itch much anymore. It's on the inside of my left arm, and I really like it. I have to go back to get it shaded and it's everything I can do to not want to have him do the shading and start on a new one at the same time. Grrr, they are so addicting.

Clementine is in first grade now. Can you believe? She's a total sass-mouth, but is also fairly sweet. Interestingly, she is into death more than other kids her age, an just the other day she pulled one of her Barbies out of its casket and said, "Look mom, isn't she so well embalmed?" Quite funny.  Her dad and I get along well, he lives close to me, and Clem seems to like that we are still a close family.

Okay, that's all I got right now.

Rotary

So, I am no longer a Rotary Club virgin. The Kid took me to my first meeting today in the town where he works. Actually, a man from a service that he and I worked together a couple of weeks ago invited me to the one in the town where I work, and I have that one on Thursday, so I'm going to end up having gone to two this week. I'll end up joining the one here in the town I'm in, but I'm glad to have had company that I know today, because I figure Thursday will be awkward since I don't yet know any of the people. I'm just happy it wasn't as cult-y as I thought it would be.

I had a service yesterday, but it wasn't very exciting. I mean, it was Mass, how exciting could it be?

Also, I got a bunch of new clothes today. Super cute.

Bored yet busy

I'm stuck in the office today. I have been all by myself most of the day, which is nice, but I'd kill to be on a service (well, not literally). I am actually getting things done though, so I'm glad for that. Since the office I'm running is new there are a ton of little organizational things that I need to do, and I did some of those today. The Kid has too many families right now and seems really stressed, so I am helping him as much as I can. At least it gives me something to do, even if it is super-secretarial.

So, I know that isn't much, but at least it's something.

Conversations with my child

Me: So, Clem, we really need to decide what you want to be for Halloween.
Clem: I want to be the same butterfly as last year.
Me: No. It is much too holy of a day for you to repeat what you were before.
Clem: Okay, I have to think about it.
*thinks*
Clem: Okay, mom, I know…I want to be Lady Gaga.
Me: ?
*pause*
Me: Um, you’re 3, Clem, you realize that you will only have like 3 of her outfits as possible choices, right?
Clem: That’s fine, mom. I’ll just pick one of those three.
Me: Great.

So, yesterday I ordered 5 dozen clear plastic orb ornaments online.  Can you guess which Gaga she wants to be?

Schedule

Okay, so, I need some structure. I have a lot to post and have been very disorganized lately and have been neglectful. I have also not had internet at home, and I don’t want to get caught blogging at work, but now I have internet at home, yay!

*Sorry!*

So, this is the posting topic schedule I would like to attempt to keep (at least half of the time):

Monday- Some sort of mortuary-related company profile
Tuesday- Embalming stuff
Wednesday- Stuff about funeral services
Thursday- Update on the cases I am working on
Friday- Personal, unless you don’t want me to include that

Got anything to say?

I would LOL but it would interfere with the pouting

Monica got flowers.

I am totally jealous.

See, I'm not really the type that gives a shit about getting flowers (well, not that much of a shit anyway), and I'm definitely not jealous of getting red roses (yep, Monica got red. fucking. roses.), as I'm not a rose person, but she got them from a family she did the services for, and that makes me jealous.  I couldn't have cared less if they had been from her man (cuz he's totally unworthy of her, and all other women), but from a family? Because they were grateful? And with a card that reads "Thanks for the wonderful job you did???" You would be jealous, too. I deserve flowers, damn it. I'm a fucking charming embalmer. People love me...don't they??

So, here I sit flowerless and jealous. Maybe I'll steal them...

I'm having a shitty week

Check back in a coupla days...

Friday, September 25, 2009

Yay, Friday!!!

Just a quick post to say "happy weekend."  Not much today to report, other than that I saw a guy at a funeral today that had what I can only describe as the anti-Hitler moustache.  The middle was shaved, but the sides were there.  Very odd...

Meh

I'm in the office today and decided that since its been so long since I last posted I should do that now. So, here is a list of what I did on Friday that I would bet you out there didn't:

1. Embalmed
2. Ate way too much pizza (that my boss bought us in an attempt to make us feel less shitty about having to scan all the old funeral files into the new computer)
3. Ordered fliers for a gig my husband is playing next month (ones that I designed even)
4. Injected an eyeball full of a plastic substance
5. Learned how to use a new copy machine
6. Learned how to say "I'm fine" in Armenian
7. Went out with some friends that live in Colorado now (why is it that I always expect people that have moved away will someday come "home"?)
8. Drank 2 Ketel One martinis
9. Started writing the September issue article of the local magazine. That's right, I'm like a celebrity.

Sorry it isn't the best post I've ever written, but hey, at least it's something...

Random Tuesday thoughts

Pie crust cookies
My youngest sister is an awesome baker/cook. She always makes amazing pies, and even though I am not a big fan of dessert I always enjoy when she makes boysenberry pie, which she did for father’s day. My dad loves boysenberries and my parents have a boysenberry plant growing in their backyard. My sister picked the berries and made the pie on Sunday, and it was amazing. She does a really good job with the pie crust, which is why I think her pies are so delicious, and it got me to thinking: Why don’t people make cookies out of pie crust? I realize it isn’t sweet like a normal cookie, but imagine a yummy pie-crust cookie, dipped in a maple frosting, or an apple frosting, or a lime frosting, etc. I mean, it would be so delicious, and for those of us that aren’t into sweets so much there could be plain ones with maybe a little bit of cinnamon on top. Swear, people should just pay me to come up with kick-ass ideas.

Fantasia
My daughter, who is addicted to Nemo and Monsters Inc., told me last night that she wanted to watch a movie, but that she didn’t want to watch Monsters (thank god). I searched for a movie for her to watch and decided on Fantasia since it had been like forever ago since I’d seen it, and having been in the Nutcracker when I was younger (wow, I sound like a dork), I thought it would be nice to listen to some classical music for a bit. What I forgot about Fantasia: That movie is a trip! Note to self: Next time I have the desire to do hallucinogenic drugs, keep that movie on hand.

Guys Choice Awards on Spike
Disclaimer: I am not a fan of Spike TV as a general rule.
I watched the Guys Choice Awards last night on Spike. I don’t know if it was a re-run or what, but it was actually entertaining. The Fight Club bit (which is a very good read, although not the author’s best) was cute, and Brad Pitt, who I do find attractive, but apparently not as attractive as the general population, was a total hottie (I think it had something to do with the fact that he rubbed his own nipples on stage). One award they got wrong: Hottest Mil(l)a. Anyhoo, very entertaining.

Mexican Train
On Saturday evening two of my gal-pals came over and we played Mexican Train dominoes like a bunch of 60-year-olds. I made dinner (tri-tip, potatoes, corn, garlic bread) and they made themselves martinis while I had a couple of beers (just two, as I am a responsible funeral director when I’m on call). So, we sat out on the porch and played Mexican Train, which, if you don’t know how to play, is a game that is super fun.

Surfing
My dad was at church on Sunday after a week of surfing. My sisters and I bought him a new wet suit for father’s day and gave it to him a week early so that he would have it for his camping/surfing trip, and it’s so funny, you know? My mom sent me a photo message of my dad coming out of the ocean with his board and he’s such an old hippie-type sometimes that I just wonder how I turned out so normal. He had a blast though, and his wet suit fits perfectly, so we did good. One of these years we are going to have to save up to get him a father’s day trip to Hawaii so he can surf in water that makes a wet suit unnecessary.
